With more than 80 different denominations
represented among its congregations, it seems that Wichitans find
strength in their faith. And, if recent construction of church and
temple facilities is any indication, the formal practice of religion
in south central Kansas is growing. Wichita area churches cut across
every demographic variable in the population, as well as every spiritual
inclination. Services conducted in languages other than English (Spanish
and Vietnamese, for example) are common.
Neighborhoods have special concerns
and needs. Some concerns are local while others have more global implications.
Church-based activities of all kinds create opportunity for service
to the community and enjoyment of leisure time.
Many congregations support active youth
groups and summer teaching camps. There are special meeting places
for single people and married couples.
If you like music, you’re sure to find
a choir waiting for you to sing in, or just listen to. Suffice it
to say, somewhere in Wichita a church home awaits you and your family.
