Nine suburban
school districts throughout Sedgwick County educate
and inspire a growing number of families and
students in communities surrounding Wichita, and are
home to some of the fastest growing public school
districts in the state. When combined with Wichita’s
district, Sedgwick County is home to 16.6 percent of
all public school students in the state of Kansas.
Quality public education can be seen throughout
Sedgwick County in top-rated schools, both small and
large. Cheney, Clearwater, Mulvane, Renwick and
Valley Center districts, along the outer edges of
Sedgwick County, provide high-quality educational
programs in smaller school environments. The four
larger districts immediately surrounding
Wichita-Derby, Goddard, Haysville and Maize-are
rapidly expanding to keep up with their growing
population bases.
Nearly all of the school districts have either
recently passed bond issues in support of new school
construction, or are preparing to bring such issues
before their voters. In all cases, high standards,
strong community support and forward-thinking
leadership pave the way for continuous improvement
in and out of the classroom.
Only a few minutes south of Wichita, Derby is a
safe, progressive community built around friendly
neighbors, family values and a quality school
system. Traditional and innovative teaching styles,
and special purpose programs designed to meet the
ever-changing needs of today's youth, are part of
Derby's commitment to offering an exciting,
progressive atmosphere for students, parents, staff
members and the community.
Derby Public Schools are committed to providing
an educational experience for students that
reinforces personal and academic growth. Rising
assessment scores and consistently above-average ACT
scores reflect the district's successful efforts in
providing an education that is among the best in the
nation. All schools in the district feature
networked computers for students, equipped with
online teaching tools and advanced software. For

district’s Web site at

Quality performance schools, small town living.
The Valley Center School District covers 83 square
miles in northern Sedgwick County, with all five
schools located in the town of Valley Center. Every
school is fully accredited and provides an excellent
education. The student body excels in all facets of
school: academics, athletics, and activities.
The Valley Center School District also provides
Special Education services for students needing
specialized learning programs. In addition, The
Learning Center offers an alternative High School
program, using a computerized curriculum, for
students who have left school or are at risk of not
completing required coursework.
Valley Center supports their schools through
volunteering, PTA, booster clubs, and parent /
teacher conferences. The district recently had the
community support to pass a substantial bond issue
to renovate and upgrade the schools, making them
second to none in the state. Check out all of the
benefits of the Valley Center School District at
